How to Add a Title Tag in WordPress

A WordPress page’s title tag or meta title shows up in search results and helps both readers and browsers know what a page is about. In their most basic form, title tags are often identical to the first header or title of a page. You can also customize a page title tag in WordPress, though you’ll need to add a plugin to do so. Here’s how to add a title tag to a page on your WordPress website.

Change a Title Tag from Page Draft

You can add a title tag from within a page draft by following these steps:

1. Go to the admin dashboard.
2. Select Pages from the menu sidebar.
3. From the Pages list, hover the mouse over the page you’d like to edit and select Edit or click on the Page Title.
4. To add a title tag, click on the blank area that says Add Title or the top header on the page. Type in the desired title for the post.
5. Click Save Draft once complete.

Change a Title Tag with a Plugin

To fully customize the title tag and other meta data or information about the page, download a plugin like YoastSEO or All in One SEO.

To find available SEO (search engine optimization) plugins, follow these steps:

1. Go to the admin dashboard.
2. Select Plugins > Add New Plugin.
3. From the Add Plugins page, use the search bar and type SEO.
4. Select from the list of available plugins and click Install Now.

With the plugin installed, you’ll be able to add customized title tags to your pages.
