How to Add a Title Tag in WordPress
A WordPress page’s title tag or meta title shows up in search results and helps both readers and browsers know what a page is about. In their most basic form, title tags are often identical to the first header or title of a page. You can also customize a page title tag in WordPress, though you’ll need to add a plugin to do so. Here’s how to add a title tag to a page on your WordPress website.
Change a Title Tag from Page Draft
You can add a title tag from within a page draft by following these steps:
- Go to the admin dashboard.
- Select Pages from the menu sidebar.
- From the Pages list, hover the mouse over the page you’d like to edit and select Edit or click on the Page Title.
- To add a title tag, click on the blank area that says Add Title or the top header on the page. Type in the desired title for the post.
- Click Save Draft once complete.
Change a Title Tag with a Plugin
To fully customize the title tag and other meta data or information about the page, download a plugin like YoastSEO or All in One SEO.
To find available SEO (search engine optimization) plugins, follow these steps:
- Go to the admin dashboard.
- Select Plugins > Add New Plugin.
- From the Add Plugins page, use the search bar and type SEO.
- Select from the list of available plugins and click Install Now.
With the plugin installed, you’ll be able to add customized title tags to your pages.
