Regain Access to Your WordPress Account
You’ve been locked out of your WordPress account. What now? Below, we’ll show you how to regain access by resetting your password. We’ll also point you in the right direction if you’ve forgotten your account username or email.
Reset Your Forgotten Password
The easiest way to regain access to your WordPress account is by resetting your password. Here’s how.
Go to the WordPress log in page for your specific site. This can be done by adding “/admin” to the end of your site’s URL.
Click on Lost Your Password? below the boxes where you’d normally type your username and password.
Another box will appear. Enter your WordPress username or email address here.
Click Get New Password.
Wait a few minutes and check the email address connected to your WordPress account.
Your inbox should contain an email with instructions on how to reset your password. Click on the Reset Password link.
Type in your new password.
To save the password, click Reset Password.
Log in with your new password.
Recover Your Forgotten Username and Email
If you can’t remember the right username or email address, restoring your WordPress account will be trickier. Your best bet is using WordPress’s account recovery form. To successfully complete this form, you’ll need to provide information about your website, as well as proof of ownership. Proof of ownership can be one of the following:
- A transaction ID from purchases you’ve made on WordPress
- A unique activation link or key that was emailed to you upon signing up.
- A two-factor authentication code
