Adding Captions to an Image in WordPress
Captions on images let you add any context you want people to know, such as when the image was taken, where it was taken, who is in it, or who took it.
There are two ways to add a caption to your image: in the media library where Attachment Details are available and on the page itself.
Add Captions in the Media Library
If you want an image to always show up on your site with the same caption, add your caption to the image itself in the Media Library. Here’s how:
- Go to the admin dashboard.
- Click Media.
- Select the image you’re captioning. The Attachment Details will pop up.
- On the right-hand side, there is a box that says caption. Add your caption there!
Add Captions on the Page
If you want an image to have a specific caption on a specific page, but not necessarily elsewhere on the site, add your caption while in the block editor. Here’s how:
- Go to the admin dashboard.
- Go to Pages.
- Choose which page you are adding the caption on.
- Add the image if you haven’t already.
- A toolbar will appear. The fifth button—which looks like a box with dots at the bottom—is the caption box. Click this box.
- A text box will appear. Add your caption there.
