Texas Charity Registration
FREE GUIDE TO REGISTERING YOUR TX CHARITY
Do I need to register my non profit charity in Texas?
According to Texas law, most charities may seek contributions without registering with registering with the Attorney General of Texas. The exceptions are organizations that solicit for law enforcement or veterans causes, although veterans organization register with the secretary of state.
What’s the process for registering a veterans charity?
Form 3501, Veterans Organization Solicitation Registration Statement is completed and filed with the registration fee of $150 to the Secretary of State, Registrations Unit. The TX veterans charity must include Form 3502, Veterans Organization Solicitation Bond with their registration statement. The amount of the surety bond varies from $5000 to $25,000 depending on the number of Texas counties the organization plans to solicit. The renewal is due each year on the registration date.
How do I register my law enforcement charity?
You deliver the Registration Form with a $50 fee to the Texas Attorney General, Charitable Trusts Section. An authorized representative of the organization signs the registration statement in front of a notary public. A $50,000 surety bond is attached to the form. The charity must renew their registration each year by May 15th.
