Yes, it is possible to be your own resident agent in Michigan. Note, however, that you’ll need to be available to accept documents during regular business hours, and your name and address will become part of the permanent public record of your business.
The form, Certificate of Change of Registered Office and/or Change of Resident Agent is available on the LARA website or you’ll have access to the form in your online account immediately, when you sign up for Michigan resident agent service with Northwest. Use of LARA forms is optional. But you have to make sure you include the required information if you choose to draft your own documents.
If you are changing your resident agent, an authorized officer or agent of a corporation or a member or manager of an LLC must sign the form. If you are just changing the registered office, the resident agent may sign the form. The form may be filed by mail or in person. If you walk in your document you may choose to pay by VISA or MasterCard. If you mail your document, include a check or money order payable to “State of Michigan” with your documents. Include the business name and identification number on check or money order.
Submit one original. It will be returned to the registered office unless you choose a different address.
