For a nonprofit corporation in New Jersey to obtain a state corporate tax exemption, the nonprofit must submit to the Regulatory Services Branch of the New Jersey Division of Taxation the following items:
- A copy of the nonprofit’s certificate of incorporation.
- A copy of the nonprofit organization’s bylaws
- An affidavit, signed by an officer of the corporation, which indicates that the nonprofit is not operated to make profit, that it is organized without capital stock, that it’s incorporated under the provisions of New Jersey law, and that it is not conducted for financial gain of any private shareholder or individual.

How does my non-profit corporation apply for a petroleum products gross receipt tax exemption in New Jersey?
If the nonprofit organization already has a New Jersey sales tax exemption certificate, and a signed, one-year contract with a petroleum seller (this exemption does not apply to the excise tax on motor fuels), then the nonprofit corporation can apply for this exemption by completing form PPT-5, and submitting the completed form to the Division of Taxation.
