Lawsuit Guide
The Lawsuit Process
A lawsuit is a legal action taken against a company, individual or a group of individuals. A lawsuit must be filed to seek enforcement on something the defendant did wrong, such as failing to comply with a contract, failing to pay for services, etc. A lawsuit begins with the plaintiff filing a complaint. The defendant(s) then files an answer. If the lawsuit continues, fact finding occurs through the Discovery process and motions may be filed. Eventually, the lawsuit may be dismissed once all information is acquired; a settlement may be reached through mediation; or a judgment asking either party to pay damages may be awarded by the judge or jury.
